July 2010
Thanks to everyone who came out and showed with us over Memorial Day weekend. Yes, we did have a rain shower each afternoon, but nothing like the tornado warnings we had the previous year!! So many members and friends were integral to the success of our show. Thanks to Donna Casey and Kelly McCrory for doing such a fine job announcing and helping in the office and at the gate. Also thanks to Emily Jo Peak and Tara Perry for serving as ring stewards!! Jackie Rushton, Beverly Davis and Amber McKenzie were among those on board helping with the gate and with the NSBA classes and Brent did his usual superb job on managing and organizing the show and keeping the classes ready to go. Jerry Casey helped with the shavings, as did Brent and oh my gosh, David Hare went all the way to Georgia to pick up our shavings when the ride we had for them fell through!! Many members helped behind the scenes too!! And, many thanks to everyone who donated items to our silent auction!! Every little bit goes a long way in making the show successful and every bit is appreciated!
Congratulations to our NSBA money winners!! The amateurs paid a total of $2,250 in added prize money to the winners. Monia Boss’s mare Can’t You See I’m Good, ridden by Rawhide Blackwell won the JR WP ($500), Daphne Cook’s gelding Leaguers Miracle Zip, ridden by Scott Cardwell won the SR WP ($300) with Ann Graning’s Gelding Hot Lopin Radical, ridden by Kyle Grant earning 2nd place dollars ($200), Buddy Boykin and Lopin Lika Lexus won the amateur WP ($500), Kay Kimbrell and Zippos Journey won the select WP ($300) with Monia Boss and her mare in second ($200). Hunter under Saddle winners were: Open HUS won by Dark Details ($75) owned by June Grant and ridden by Kim Tidwell, 2nd place winner ($50) was Ms Twenty Four Karat, owned and ridden by Avery Sams. Amateur HUS was won ($75) by Betsy Runyan and In Dazzling Detail, with 2nd place ($50) again being won by Ms Twenty Four Karat, owned and ridden by Avery Sams.
The Amateur Board needs your input. We will be meeting in the next couple of months to start planning the Year End Awards and the 2011 Amateur show. Because our show usually is on the Memorial Day weekend, it has been very challenging to find judges. Therefore, we are making our plans NOW!! SO, if you have any ideas or opinions regarding ANYTHING having to do with the Amateur show, please voice your thoughts to any Board member. We plan to decide on the LOCATION of the show and hire most of the show staff by the end of the year. Although we had double the stalls rented compared to the 2009 show, the entries were only slightly higher. We want ideas on how to increase our entries!!!! Also, if you have thoughts and opinions regarding the Year End Awards, please let one of us know. We want to know what you liked and didn’t like about the amateur show, and we want to know what YOU want to win for YEAR END PRIZES!!!! As always, I encourage the membership to give feedback to your board, whether it’s about the show, points, judges, class list, awards, anything!! Suggestions, complaints, ideas, and anything that you think the amateur leadership needs to hear. The board is open to suggestions and committed to helping the amateur association to grow and prosper. See you down the rail, Rachel
